Those who are crossing over to Southern Thailand not really spend much as per what is stated in the article. Yes they spend between 7000THB to 10,000THB. But not per head. That is per couples or a family of 3 or 4. They stay in hotel for 2 nights which will cost them 1000 THB. They fill their vehicles full tank before crossing so that there is no need to fill fuel in Thailand. Many won't travel North of Hat Yai. At the most they go to Krabi or Phattalung to ensure that they have enough fuel to return back to cross the border. Only less than 10% spend more when they are travelling further away from Hat Yai or Satun. Further the price of goods in Thailand  and Malaysia are nearly the same in view of the currency exchage value. Hence many just cross over for the food and as a break from the norm. In reality the tourists numbers are there. However does it relates to the expected or projected revenue......which is a big question mark.

I agree 100%. TAT has been getting away with counting Malaysian and Laos day trippers as tourists, and they then over exaggerate the money that they anticipate they will spend. TAT is a total scam -  Thailand advertises itself - and any extra stuff they do to encourage tour organisations and to advertise a little, can be far better managed and done far cheaper.  Their spending on overseas junket trips is extraordinary - they waste 10s millions baht every year on that alone. Lets alone all the bonuses they get for 'creating' tourists - they got heaps for all the Russians arriving when it had nothing to do with them. Only wokes and idiots think that a Government run organisation can create more business/wealth.  Shut them down for a year and there would be very little difference in tourist numbers.

Do they just pluck a number out of their butt hole to appease the masses?  For they really expect the hospitality industry to prepare for a huge jump in sales/income?
