Tourism officials to launch major Phuket marketing campaign overseas

Recommended Posts

Following the recent murder of a Swiss tourist, and the US government advising citizens to avoid travel to Thailand, Phuket’s tourism sector faces some serious challenges. The southern island re-opened to international tourists on July 1 under its sandbox scheme but now officials fear that may be in jeopardy. The Bangkok Post reports that the Tourism Authority of Thailand is now planning a major marketing push overseas to promote the island as a safe destination. Earlier this week, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention upgraded Thailand to Level 4, its highest warning level. The CDC is urging its […]

“promote the island as a safe destination“ - good luck with that. No really do hope it but it’s going to be a tough sell at best. Phuket was already being promoted as a safe destination and it’s only gotten worse since. The infections are raising on the island and country. There are less freedoms and more restrictions. The country is on the verge of a total lockdown and any traveler has to hope it won’t apply to Phuket too. And we are not even talking about the killing of tourists.

Good guys tourists in, bad guys tourists locked up.

And by the way we have only just this week identified 6 areas where it seems it is unsafe for foreigners to visit. We are working on identifying much more in the future ?

On a bright note Foreign Tourist's are not being blamed for the rise in Covid cases in Phuket.

A spokesman for the Islands health Ministry has blamed Burmese workers in the fishing industry for the latest Covid 19 cases rise's he said today reported on the Bangkok post.

Ahh , it's the old Burmese again trick.

Thing is talk is cheap and as much as they wish to talk up sandbox the ques' they should really be asking is " why would I come here " as that is what potential visitors will ask of themselves .. and based on the number of vid's put up on Y T by folk with no agenda that show it quite forlorn and in some places desolate then the answer may well be why indeed ..

I think it is time to take drastic measures to combat the virus: vaccinate the population with safe vaccines.  carrying out promotional campaigns only serve to spend money that would be better invested in vaccines.  Insurance companies begin to exclude Thailand from coverage

Another day another half baked scheme/plan.

Even now with the trickle of arrival's they still don't understand mass global tourism is dead.

What they don't understand about the current global leisure travel situation is truly remarkable.

Even if the complex arrangements they have invented for tourists were dropped today the arrival's would still be close to zero.

What don't they get about this?

They must have buried their heads in their beloved sandbox.

Time to fully (yes that means two doses) vaccinate the people of Phuket!

Where are they going to magically get the vaccines from?

I know Thais who have offered to buy the vaccine themselves but no one has any to sell, the government have very few too.
