Maybe it's not really a "perception" but instead a reality? Thailand is an export driven economy, and in fact heavily depends on exports to fund the budget. However, its balance of trade with China is massively upside down and the problem is growing. There is no level of increased tourism from China which makes economic sense budget wise.
