Well the reality is many tourists become poor after landing in the country.

I suspect this may have more to do with mental health issues possible exasperated by over indulgence in easy to access cannabis than 'free visas'

I can only speak for Pattaya but these Weed shops haven't done the place any favours. 

The place was bad enough with drunks without the skunk I was on Soi Buakhao last night in the slow moving traffic I seen 2 x obvious rental SUV's driven by 2  x Falang in their late 20's earlier 30's followed each other windows down smoking huge joints the comical thing one of them lent out of the drivers side window to berate a Thai on a moped for bad driving. 

Now I know it's a common occurrence in Pattaya folk driving of their box but it's made worse with the stoned driver's. 

My suggestion would be identify one Soi that's struggling for tourist and move all the Weed Shop into it .

The part I can't understand is puffing away in public.   Many many moons ago when I used to partake it was always in the comfort of my own home or property. 

Never every day, in fact very rarely.  It was a great relaxant but not something I'd go outta my way to get. 

It's still illegal in NZ although cops turn a blind eye to small amounts for own consumption... Its not worth their effort and paperwork to nab everyone. 

I certainly wouldn't walk down the road or hang out in a bar with a joint between my lips... that in my opinion is asking for trouble.

In usual Thai fashion, they put no curbs on it so weed shops pop up everywhere 

 

And I used to laugh at people saying ir would bring bad tourists but that has been the case in Kamala Beach, where we frequent

The amount of older, lower class Europeans sky rocketed

 

And you can't sit on the beach without strong weed smell everywhere 

 

 

I was sitting outside on a smallish ferry

I was the only one outside, under the shaded area

This backpacker/hippy chick sits right in front of me and starts smoking with the smoke going all over me until I told her to put it out or move 

 

She had zero consideration for someone around her

They also state what they know based on their experiences.  That doesn't necessarily make them left or right wing dinosaurs.

I'm a weed smoker, I enjoy it

I'm also a considerate person who understands a lot of other people don't like and parents don't want their young kids exposed to it

 

So I would never smoke it out in the open around others

No, you’re now a Canadian so too polite to confront them. Just tell them you are an asthmatic. My missus has a broad range of chronic conditions whenever I need them. Cutting in at the food queue - she’s diabetic.  Someone won’t shut up- she has an ear ache. Vendor won’t budge on the price - she’s Jewish.

As for the low class Europeans

 

It is something that is quite noticeable when you frequent one area

 

And confirmed by many business owners in the area....

 

I'm not trying to offend anyone(I know that's easy to do on here)

Just giving an observation.....

 

As I originally said

I used to scoff when people suggested that legalizing weed would attract less appealing tourists 

I just didn't think people would suddenly fly to Thailand just because they can smoke weed

 

But apparently I was wrong
