Its part of the charm and culture of the place.  Its the traffic thats the problem, not the vendors.  Kill the atmosphere and the culture and you kill the local economy.  I very much doubt that vising tourists have complained, unless they drive around the area.  Bin the traffic, not the vendors.

To be honest looking at the picture with the article it looks like that is a really wide pavement there why not cut it by a couple of feet mark out licenced bays for food vendors to use. Too simple I suppose.
