Military conscription question

I don't know if anyone would know.

My stepson has been and qualifies for an exemption to the military conscription because he was at University before and is going back for his Masters in late May, so he will qualify once again for an exemption.

But he's here in Canada working and the lottery is early April and I/we are looking at a way he can submit the exemption from overseas so that he can stay here for another 5-6 weeks and make money

Has anyone ever had experience with this?

We'd (well he) would even pay a lawyer to do it for him since it would be worth it for him to be able to stay the extra 5-6 weeks

Thanks for any info if anyone had experience

^ looks like the Consulate actually can do Military Draft Deferments here

But it may be a different situation for them.

I'd imagine they are always dealing with someone that is at University here in Vancouver

Not someone who is in Vancouver but is enrolled for upcoming semester at University in Thailand

So we still may need a lawyer in Thailand

Have you posted on AN? Probably more potential people with relevant experience there.

Ok thanks

Going to stop by the Consulate this morning

It's right up the street from my office and so tiny that you can just walk in and ask questions easy

Although I think they like their cushy jobs and don't like too many questions that make them work too hard 555

But if no luck will ask AN the in-Thailand solution

Thanks for that

I found it and went to the Consulate today and they were on the same page

It's a bit unique because he's asking for a deferment in Canada for attending a University in Thailand

Usually the deferment they do requests for are for people attending University in Canada

But they said as long as my son gets approval from the military province rep that the consulate here can send in the deferment they can do it

So my son will ask his rep in Suphan Buri

I'd imagine it won't be an issue
