Same here. From a bar stool point of view, I would question the most common female nickname, as well.

Yes, option B) surprised me, too. I would have thought A) or C).

Option D) is more of an MO rather than a nickname from the bar perspective.

The female nickname is a surprising one. I would have thought 'Noi'.

I wrote this quiz some time ago, and the source document from the Ministry of Culture is now a dead link on Wikipedia. There are references to the research in various blogs on the Internet, such as here: https://learnthaiwithmod.com/2013/06/top-10-common-thai-nicknames-and-some-weird-ones/

I guess if they redid the survey and limited the sample to Loi Kroh Road, it'd be a very different top ten 🤣

It really is surprising

I've met a 1000 Noi's and one May

Speaking of nicknames

One of my wife's friends here in Vancouver has a bit of money and her broker in Thailand was losing her money so she asked me to put her with one of our advisors at my firm

Her email came over as "Porn"

I had to delicately explain to her she may want to change her email heading 5555

About 20 years ago I met a fellow from Nigeria here in Japan at a community Japanese study group. Very nice, humble guy. Unfortunately for him, his name was "Yariman", which means "sl*t" in Japanese. Geez. 555
