Another one that needs to be put in prison general population rather than segregated.

Message to TT News.  There seems to be a distinct move to report all and every sex related story by the News people, why is that? TT is not main stream Thai News, its a western leaning forum, so why all these reports?  Is it to titillate those who like to read such reports, I sincerely hope not?  That's the purview  of the the low level media in the west? We the forum members hardly need to be reminded about such things, so why use this forum to do that.  All it is  going to do is antagonize many in the farang community, who already have negative feelings about much that happens in this country, so is that it?  Leave it to the Bangkok Post to publish these reports.  It should be of no concern to TT

I agree, there are too many.

I see the reporters on these articles are female Thais: maybe they want to raise awareness on this issue, and by all means they should, but they should do it on Thai language platforms.

It is newsworthy. If farangs are unable to  to put one story into perspective, that speaks to their limitations and nothing else. Restricting information because it creates a bad image is something associated with totalitarian states. This is one story out of a probable hundred+ of similar events in any given year. It serves as a reminder as to who is involved in the sex trade that is enjoyed by many people. The prostitutes who satiate the carnal lust of visitors to Koh Samui, Pattaya, Patong etc. were groomed through events like this. Others were coerced through economic plight. If a story reminds  farangs of these people, and can discourage some from supporting these exploitive activities, then it has done well.

Many people enjoy reading the crime news. It's both exciting and entertaining. If it wasn't, the Daily Mail, Mirror, New York Post, Sun and many other media sites would have closed down long ago.  Exciting human interest stories encourage readership. The fact that the stories present minimal information and are never followed up on, would be a valid criticism.

But it's not one story though. Out of the 8 first stories to appear in the news section, 5 are about sexual abuse, it is not "exciting crime news" as you put it, these are grim and sordid events which deserve to be exposed and addressed politically, but there are too many of them on this forum, whatever discussion us expats could have on it could be contained in just one of those topics, there is no need for so many of them.

Everything has to be taken with nuance. Some bar girls have a grim background, a few are even pimped out by their own parents, I have seen it happen. But I was friends with quite a few bar girls in my younger years (I am currently in my mid-40s) and in my experience, most of the young ones just want to have fun, earn easy money, post pics of themselves on social media with their farang acquaintances and can't be bothered doing a real job, there is nothing much more to it.

In the past, when I questioned the "integrity" of the news coverage here, my peepee was slapped quite hard by a mod.  Guess times have changed.

It's quite easy to see why they continue to post salacious stories in the forum instead of news that might actually affect us and we have an opinion about. The "editors" who make such decisions are obviously under the impression that "sex sells" and the more sex they can write and put in the forum, the more eyeballs they will get and the more they can justify their advertising rates.

I gave up long ago, after Tim left, in believing those that write for this organization are really journalists or reporters.  The fall has been great and the product has truly suffered.

Thaiger has never claimed to be a news organization or to employ journalists.  It is a digital media company that provides a platform to host financial services, advertising and other lifestyle goods and services. The news items are a free service to attract readers who will then peruse the services and products offered at the website.  This is why it is unfair and unreasonable to criticize the current events stories provided. Do you criticize Facebook or X or Instagram of TikTok for their quality of journalism?

If it's presented as news, yes I do.

Here it's labeled as "Latest Thailand News" and the site is billed as "Thailand News and Information".

I understand the purpose of the site is to sell itself but if it calls itself "news" then it is fair game to criticize the quality and veracity of the product they label as such.
