Okay, someone has their proverbial head up their...

It's either the PM who is pushing for more pilots because he believes that's the reason there aren't enough flights, or it's the pilot association which claims that airlines haven't hired the ones they furloughed before, but their spokesman harps on the availability of 1,200 "student pilots", which means they haven't earned their wings yet, and aren't able to help any airline in their near term expansion.

Typical Thai short sightedness.  Most of the Word's airlines recruit internationally, based on experience and their piloting needs, as no one Nation can normally meet their piloting needs domestically, or find enough training space to train the numbers needed. Thai aviation, as with many other commercial sectors, lives in  a separate,  largely prejudiced and myopic World. That is why Thailand will never be a great Nation.

"“Thailand has around 1,200 student pilots who still cannot find a job.”

Because the airlines will not finish their training/give them flight hours needed.

" However, the post-pandemic landscape has shifted, with some airlines adopting a pay-to-fly scheme. This scheme, popular among European carriers, requires new graduates to pay between 1.7 million to 3.5 million baht for training in exchange for jobs."

How many aspiring Thai pilots can afford that I wonder?
