A new report on internet freedom and censorship around the world has placed Thailand in the third-lowest ranking, dropping 2 levels from last year. On a scale of 1 to 11, one being nearly unrestricted and 11 being fully locked down, Thailand is now ranked an 8, with the report declaring Thailand’s internet freedom 73% restricted. Comparitech, the company that conducts these rankings, measures countries around the world on restrictions on things like torrenting (downloading files, often illegally), porn, social media, chatting and messaging apps, VPNs (to anonymise access and often skirt these restrictions), and political media. The ratings drop […]

Your friend is incorrect.

My friend says that porn is freely available on the internet in Thailand without a VPN and only a few sites remain blocked.

news posted online, moving the restriction from fake news to any news that could incite fear regardless of truth

So basically we have to tell lies, but that can not either because that will be fake news, with other words only option left is.. you can not say anything...

Well I am not going to lower myself on PRAYUT his level, can not force people to lie... maybe he needs a medical exam ?

Time to go Mr Prayut... it has been fun but now you getting it in your head to much....

If anyone thinks that the Thai Junta have not been 'advised' by their overlords in China, who top the list with 11, on how to monitor and track people's internet usage in Thailand, then you are very much mistaken.  Take precautions because if/when the proverbial hits your Expat fan one day, your internet usage could be dredged up and used against you - both by the Police and/or in a Thailand Court.  This aint the West - you have no rights of privacy - and there are very few rules of evidence - it does not have to be relevant or credible or proven and there aint no privilege.   Just be careful and dont take stupid risks.

Yes this is straight out of the 101 CCP manual. You could see it several years back which way freedom was going and getting stomped on, especially here in CM when you saw at first one CCTV, then another, then many different looking types in a section, and now basically thousands everywhere and they are still adding them. You will see them even on tiny roads that you would never think would have them. They the self granted privileged Junta and Elite just don't care, as they see them as their peon servants.

Dead right @HolyCowCm  I would like to think that 'they' are reassessing things now, in regards to both Expats and Tourists and Ordinary Thais, but somehow I think that they will only change when they are forced to change. The only viable solution in my mind comes from top, and although the previous incumbent would have done somethings, I am not sure the current one gives a rat's rear.

I noticed the same thing with policemen a few years ago - they all suddenly looked like kids to me.

Yep - we sure do.  And I also noticed that the strong young men (20-40) stopped seeing me as a 'threat' or 'competition' anymore.

There is only one reason the government wanted to ban Pornhub and that is when all the ministers when with their mia nois were looking at it it made them look ,well inferior, know what I mean ??

It's nothing a good VPN cannot fix.  Most of their attempts to censor fall flat much like everything else they do.

I do not go online without a VPN connection, on either my phone or my laptop.

For folks who want to research a bit and see if a VPN is for you, check out the InternetPrivacyGuy list

A fairly comprehensive list and accurate summary comments as well

Unfortunately is very sad and who knows what they are reassessing, but intensive monitoring and eavesdropping comes to mind, and the intention to control with a tighter fist also.

Yeh - it worries me that in the lead up to the 2023 elections they will take a similar path as before.

In my opinion the western democratic world needs more decisive strong leaders, not more appeasement specialists taking back-channel bribes to support bulldust. Best example was allowing China 'Issue XYZ' will give them encouragement to join the freedom loving world. That was total utter falsehoods - perpetuated by those who gained from it, and supported by the liberal idiots and false media. So how has China behaved ever since they gained all that wealth from being allowed to trade?

What should happen right now is that countries Myanmar should be blockaded by the west. Nil ingoings and nil outgoings. Shut down the economy.  Liberal bleeding hearts will say that this will hurt the people, but the reality is that unless the west invades, the only solution is the people rebelling themselves. Sure - diplomatic channels and all that - but unless they are severely punished, they will bulldust and lie to the west and accept all their help and stay in power and not give the people any freedoms - in fact they will do the opposite - Nth Korea is example.

If they did that to Myanmar, then if the Thailand Junta Govt does take that approach, then and only then will the Thailand elite and powerful know that they will have hell to pay if they do not allow free and open elections.  That is the ONLY solution.  It is as old as the Bible - sticks and carrots work - talking to the animal will only work if the animal already agrees.

Wouldn't this be nice if it was some certain one or certain many in power? Can just change out the leaders and sidekicks.
