In an effort to protect children from predators, Apple will update iPhones and iPad to detect and report images of child sexual abuse. The megacompany vowed yesterday to implement new detection software to automatically flag any photos that involve children being abused and exploited as soon as they are uploaded into iCloud, Apple’s proprietary cloud-based storage service. Photos will be reported to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children after the update is launched that will modify the operating systems of iPhones and iPad. The ubiquitous tech company released a statement announcing the new plan to monitor photos on […]

Apple can go F*$& themselves.  I will never buy an iPhone.  Imagine if Apple stated that they were going to scan my iMac "for my protection," of course.  Would you buy an Apple Computer if this is the case?  Clearly not.

So why would anyone accept it on their mobile phone?

Apple consenting to this is worrisome.

I agree that child abuse and sexual abuse of children is a horrendous crime.

Allowing the government, via Apple, to your data is George Orwell's nightmare come true.  This is just the latest step in stripping away any privacy you have if you are using the internet for anything at all.

It won't stop here, but it should stop before it becomes reality.

You already are to some degree if you use a Google or Microsoft service.

The intention may be noble, but it's an unacceptable step towards a dystopia.

1. Researchers have already found that they can trigger alerts on these systems by sending people inappropriate images. So, it's possible people could be set up for investigation maliciously. In these sorts of things, I imagine the damage to someone's life and reputation could be immeasurable.

2. Can Apple really resist government overreach with the technology? Nice Foxconn factory you have there Apple..here's a list of things you need to watch for.

Once you open this gate wider, it's done.

It's not Apple.  It is you.  If you buy an iPhone and agree when you setup the phone, you will be giving your consent.

I am certainly against all child abuse however I think this has crossed a line into privacy.  What is next the police asking for information contained on phones concerning drugs.  Perhaps text messages that the Thai King would find objectionable.  How about police asking Apple for GPS location of phones at the time a crime was committed.  Does the government then ask for any data on messages that are critical of the current government?

It is a slippery slope when government can and does monitor the daily activities of people.  Once that line is crossed the possibilities for abuse are significant.

Child abuse is sick and they need to sling all of them sick b-turds up and shoot them, but after reading this I am now seriously thinking of ditching my Apple and buying a Huawei to protect my privacy.

Damned if they do damned if they don't. Personally I don't mind giving up a little privacy if it stops kids getting abused.

That's questionable.  Historically, these kinds of things have not been very effective.  They are doing a match of images on your phone with existing, known images in a database. New images won't be matched (because they're new) and therefore won't be caught.  So this encourages traffickers to throw away the old images and create new ones.

Using a moral panic (won't anyone think of the children!??) to justify invasive technology just taints the whole idea and makes the cure seem as bad as the disease.

The police frequently ask for gps locations from ALL mobile providers when a crime has been committed. That ship has long sailed. Every journey you have ever taken with your Apple or Android has been recorded from the day you bought it, there is no way to switch that off. (you can manually on your phone but they will trace you from the signals you use)

There's nothing in Apple's plan to prevent you from keeping whatever you want on your phone or iPad or whatever. It's only getting scanned if you use the iCloud service (which, as far as cloud services go is one of the worst). The headlines are misleading. If you keep it on your device it's fully encrypted.

LoL until its not. If you trust them well...ok. Look at that link I just posted and those photos. The guys at the very top are pedophiles and we now have proof, go against them and they plant child porn on your phone then find you guilty. Thats what this is. Speak out against the powers that be and they will just put child porn on your phone and bust you. easy!

If you follow Edward Snowden the authorities have all the info on you that they could ever want and will continue to have it. If privacy is what you're after get off the internet, phone and go and live in  cave. That horse has bolted and is never going back.

This place is safe privacy wise but they will kill you if you try to land.

I trust nobody. It can be an issue. How do you know that Microsoft doesn't have spy software on Windows? How do you know that Huawei isn't sending all data straight to Xi's secretary? What is really on that chip in your debit card? And who the actual f#(k are the "powers that be"? Soros? Gates?

I look at it this way. I can look after my own privacy and live knowing what the corporocracy that we live in is using my data for and taking steps to make that data as useless to them as possible. I can make the effort to know how to make the system work for me.

Or, I can live in fear about what the shadowy "powers that be" might do to my phone if I reveal that Soylent Green really is people and how the NWO is really out to get me because I'm such a threat.

Must be very tiring.

I’m sure forensics could identify the source. Problem is mud sticks!

Windows 10 spies on you.  That is an established fact.  I would not own a Chinese phone, including the iPhones made in China.  I buy Samsung.

If you want to stop Windows 10 run this script in powershell.

You must run it every time Windows updates.
