Indeed, there is no need for such awareness-rasing in what is perhaps the most gay/trans-friendly country in the world. I recall seeing a rainbow-coloured, conspicuous "safe space" in a Thai bar recently, I am sure 99% of the customers there don't know what a "safe space" is and don't care, nor is there a need for one.

This like everything else is about tourism and the money that flows from it. The whole LGTBQ thing is neither here nor there.

The difficult transition from being a culturally self-centered country to being a "global player"…

If the government continues on this path of making Thailand just another "stopover for international travellers", it should expect pushback from its people, who, unlike in the West, have not been prepped since birth to love everything but themselves.
