According to a new study, a sprawling network of more than 350 phony social media profiles is pushing pro-China narratives and aiming to discredit those viewed as critics of China's leadership.

According to the research by the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR), the goal is to delegitimize the West and promote China's influence and image abroad. The study, which was shared with the BBC, is a network of phony personas spread obscene caricatures depicting exiled Chinese millionaire Guo Wengui, an outspoken critic of China, among others.

Other contentious people shown in the cartoons included Li-Meng Yan, a "whistleblower" physicist, and Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former political strategist. Each of these people has been accused of spreading incorrect information, including false information about Covid-19.

Some of the identities, which can be found on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, have bogus AI-generated profile images, while others look to have been hijacked after posting in different languages.

There is no proof that the network is tied to the Chinese government, but it mirrors pro-China networks that were previously taken down by Twitter and Facebook, according to the CIR, a non-profit group that works to counter disinformation.

Pro-China narratives identical to those propagated by Chinese official authorities and state media were amplified by these networks. Much of the network's coverage focuses on the United States, particularly sensitive themes like gun regulations and race relations. One of the network's narratives portrays the United States as having a terrible human rights record. The bogus accounts mention the murder of George Floyd, as well as discrimination towards Asians, in their posts.

Some accounts frequently reject human rights violations in the Xinjiang region, where experts claim China has arrested at least a million Muslims against their will, referring to the charges as "lies that are concocted by the US and the West."

"The network's goal appears to be to delegitimize the West by spreading pro-Chinese messages," CIR report author Benjamin Strick stated.

the number is closer to a million.

this has been going for more than a decade on social media and of course in the real world for decades in the form of communist propaganda.

it is in everything. Netflix, Disney, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, LAT. We are the brink of a complete take over of the USA by communist sympathizers.

Agreed. Just think, up 'till a few months ago, merely questioning the origins of the virus using Occam's razor was enough to get you thrown off social media platforms. Your "news" outlets mentioned above called people that considered whether a lab leak had occurred as conspiracy theorists and did all they could to belittle and cancel anyone questioning whether a country ruled by the greatest political system ever (communism) could ever have done anything wrong. Absolutely disgusting.

Let's cut to the chase.

China needs to be held accountable not just for the covid19 spread, but for violation of practically every trade organization that they are in.

The idiots that still give these evil commie bastards developing nation status all need to be strung up by their globalist nut sacks.

What a joke these "world" organizations are, allowing these evil ccp tyrants to feel free to steal, spy and flourish.

Oh God, not the permanently debunked, serial liar SerpentZA? With his oily sidekick Laowhy85? C'mon, you can do better than that. Have you seen the one where he says he taught Doctors and what it says on the board? Laughable.

In a pen stroke we could cancel the $1 trillion of US debt that China owns. Simple fact is China must pay every cent every citizen around the world has lost. I make an exception for American democratic voters who by and large found the virus very convenient. I remember how they were rooting for the virus under Trumps term. They don't deserve any compensation, but everyone else yes, with interest and punishment extra charges too.

There must be incentive to start running labs properly and transparently.

Then you'll be paying Iraq off after the deliberate destruction of their society based on a pack of lies?

You could cancel the debt but no-one would ever deal with you again.

Propaganda in the modern age.

Should we really be surprised finding any country doing it to another!

Nothing different to what TVF are doing for their "membership creation"

Many would agree with you.

The US are quickly losing their status, economically and perhaps even militarily. They certainly do not hold the moral high ground any longer. But do China?

Just as the dollar replaced the pound; the big test will come when China takes over as the money boss of the world. Some think that the US will implode once the 'petro dollar' is exposed. If that's the case, then most western economies will go with it.

Perhaps, but just who do you think "owns" the moral high ground?

It certainly is not the EU or the UK.

I'm not sure any country does.

As far as the decline of the military, sure the wokeness blather is destroying it from within.

Probably closer to 35000 and why is Thai Visa registered in Hong Kong?

Why not ? But Thaivisa.com or Oceannow or whatever they are called are not companies registered in HongKong. It is only the domain name that is registered in Hongkong, two entirely different entities.

Okay why is the doman name registered in Hong Kong.  I have seen very few registrations outside Hong Kong done in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a part of China.  Who would register a domain in China?

Since JFK, the US has gradually lost its International acclaim and power. The UK is simply a puppy-dog of the US; and has been since WW2. The EU is a disjointed force run by unelected entities.

What of China? Can't deny their rise to power. Lifting millions out of poverty in such a short space of time is no mean feat.

In the last 30 years Russia has been a sleeping giant. Certainly the equal of the US in many respects; militarily being the main one.

Who else? Japan? Australia? Iran? Israel?

If you are praising the ccp for "raising people out of poverty" then you are obviously in favor of a central government deciding everything for everyone. I find that truly ridiculous.

Russia military power is currently not equal to the US. Except for the madness of nuclear weapons. But if the democrats have their way, it will be very quickly as they continue to play the disastrous Obamanation apology tour.

Not praising China. Pointing out that they have risen from the ashes in a short space of time.

As for Russia. Although the US has 2,000 bases scattered around the world, in today's world this could be regarded as a weakness. They can be taken out by modern warfare. IMO, Russian technologically is the equal of the US; but not in numbers.

As for China. They would fight with a billion 5G guided drones. Having aircraft carriers at sea in far off waters is, IMO, more for show and bravado than common sense.

The next war will come about because/when the US loses its dominant position in money; IMO.

Good debate.

However, Libya and Iraq ceased trading in the petro-dollar and were invaded for other reasons; we were told that Gaddify was bad and Saddam had very destructive weapons.

Now back on topic. The countries that have the information and technology will dominate.
