The complainants say they lost over 3.5 million baht in membership fees. The members filed their complaints against BigGym with the Phuket City Police. One member,” Mr Pornchai”, says that some members had already paid their yearly memberships, but the gyms are closed. He says they have paid 100,000 baht for their membership. What can you do, other than wish them luck - lots of luck - with that one. I'd be fascinated to learn how the police follow-up action transpires.

Wow.  That sucks.  Buyer beware especially when it comes to buying gym memberships with the corona virus going around.  With closings going up, it’s something to think about.  Cheaper to visit the local buffet.  555

Seems to happen a often with these places, remember California WoW gyms in Bkk, guy just cleared off back there

Going forward I would say that paying any organisation an annual fee, such as Gyms or Golf Clubs, is a risky idea.  The Thai economy aint going to 'bounce back' quickly like the USA economy did - it is going to take years - and many businesses will be carrying lots of debt.  In Thailand the chances of proving deliberate fault in a bankruptcy in order to recover some money is almost impossible - the banks are always first in the line - but for an Expat to get their money back through a court is even less likely.

Ring Fit = 2500 THB

This Gym = 100,000 THB

That’s insane and they bought it up front during a pandemic. I’m pretty sure they remained closed for most of the year so why continue with the membership?!

TruArena in Bkk and Hua Hin, one of the best gyms I've ever been in worldwide is 17,000 per year, with a healthy supply of nimbettes to oggle - so what on earth do you get for 100k ?!?!

Me thinks the claim has been exaggerated a tad

edit: nevermind the article says 2 people lost 50k baht and 16 people lost 300k baht

numbers are all over the place
