Rollout of Pfizer doses gets underway

Recommended Posts

The first rollout of the eagerly awaited Pfizer vaccine has kicked off, with doses being distributed first to Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, followed by other high-risk provinces around the country. According to a Bangkok Post report, Opas Karnkawinpong from the Department of Disease Control has confirmed the doses will be given as booster shots to frontline healthcare workers who have already received 2 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. It’s understood most of the country’s healthcare workers have been fully inoculated with China’s Sinovac vaccine, but its efficacy against the Delta variant has been called into question. Last Friday, Thailand […]

I like the part at the end of the article where there are "claims" that 30,000 of those Pfizer doses "went missing" after they arrived in Thailand and were being given to "VIPs".

1.5 million doses sounds like a lot but in reality it's a drop in the bucket in a country with a population of 66+ million.

There is going to be such a hodge-podge of vaccines and vaccinated people running around soon that I suspect is going to result in an even stronger version of the virus to emerge.

For example. One expects a hospital to be a clean, sanitary place where nasty bacteria and such can't live yet there are frequent outbreaks that are traced back to bacteria that have developed immunities to the things mean to kill them.

Kind of like how we use "dead" cells from a virus to get our bodies to develop anti-bodies and give us immunity, some bacteria are exposed to minute quantities of antibiotics and develop immunity to them (becoming "super bugs").

(That's just one of a whole whack of articles about "super bugs" in hospitals.)

This Covid-19 virus is less than 2 years old and has already developed at least 10 strains and that's before it was exposed to any vaccines.
Currently there are the Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma strains in North America, however, the WHO lists a number of additional "strains of interest including the Eta, Iota and Kappa strains as well as 3 others they haven't "named" yet.

But we can't talk about such things because we are only allowed to write "happy" thoughts so no one goes into a panic.
The old "head in the sand" routine where one hopes that when they eventually lift their heads, all will be sunshine and lollipops.

As one can surmise from their Orwell, "big brother" states do not like their people knowing the truth, if they can help it.

The article listed the amounts allocated to different provinces around Bangkok for Frontline Workers ... but didn't list the amount Bangkok was getting.  It would be a great to show transparency regarding where ALL 700,000 vaccine doses were going for ALL provinces for Frontline Workers.

Then when allocating / distributing the 800,000+ vaccine doses to the people in need next.  Show the amount each province is allocated.

I'm still baffled why "students going abroad" need special vaccines.  Most western gov's are giving free vaccine shots to people coming in to their countries.

It’s from BionTech not from Pfizer! They just help to produce it.

From the original article.

"Last Friday, Thailand finally took delivery of its first supply of the Pfizer vaccine, when over 1.5 million doses donated by the US government arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport."

Pretty sure if the Germany company BioNTech used their American affiliate (BioNTech US) to produce Pfizer's vaccines and then ship them to Thailand, they are going to be just as good as those made by Pfizer themselves.

I appreciate that you are afraid and confused. Covid19 is overwhelming for many people, particularly those who have a limited understanding of the natural sciences or suffer an underlying mental illness. In an effort to simplify the scary circumstances they invent simplistic solutions and make assumptions. This is their coping mechanism, and that's ok. Unfortunately, the make believe often becomes their personal reality and they then believe that what they imagine is true.  They sometimes make up the science to fit the scenario they offer and at other times, they read an article, cannot comprehend the subject matter and misinterpret so badly that it comes out as nonsensical. Other times they are suckered by foreign state  agencies who plant false information and spread lies through social media.

For example, you write; Kind of like how we use "dead" cells from a virus to get our bodies to develop anti-bodies and give us immunity, some bacteria are exposed to minute quantities of antibiotics and develop immunity to them (becoming "super bugs").     No, we do not use "dead" cells from a virus to develop antibodies. Viruses are not cells and viruses are not living organisms. A virus is a package of genetic material that is in a carrying case capable of attaching to a target cell, and of injecting the genetic material into that target, where the target cell reproduces on behalf of the virus. There are many ways to create a  vaccine. Some involve inactivating the virus so that it cannot replicate with the capability of causing an infection but enough to induce the creation of immune memory b cells. Others involve swapping out the virus genetic code and others show the virus blueprint to the immune system which then stores the memory of the virus and can then respond quickly when the virus enters the body.

If a  "superbug" was solely the product of minute quantities of antibiotic, the issue would be manageable.  The term superbug is a misnomer. Because bacteria and fungi are so fast at reproducing they have the ability to outlast an antibiotic. They always have. The problem is the overuse of antibiotics or the failure of patients to follow through on a course of treatment. It is not just antibiotics. The failure to properly sterilize medical equipment and instruments will select towards resistant versions of bacteria and fungi.

This Covid-19 virus is less than 2 years old and has already developed at least 10 strains and that's before it was exposed to any vaccines.  Ok, and what's your point? There are thousands of variants of the virus. Last February, the UK  MoH  gave an estimate of 4,000. Some are dangerous and others are not.  Mutation is part of the life cycle of organisms.  If it wasn't,  humans would not have evolved over time. If any organism is to survive over time it must adapt to its environment. Anytime a cell or virus replicates, there is potential for a mutation to occur. Replication requires the copying of genetic material and errors occur in the copying. Yes there are  groups of viruses which can be identified by a dominant mutation giving rise to  a "strain", but again, so what? Examples are the common flu viruses and the SARS CoV virus endemic in some bats.

But we can't talk about such things because we are only allowed to write "happy" thoughts so no one goes into a panic.  You claim that discussion of the virus and its mutations is suppressed. Sometimes I wish it were as I have had to attend Team and Zoom calls at 5 AM on some days. Perhaps you mean that there is an effort to stop the spreading of lies and and sowing of civil unrest by foreign state powers. Good, I support silencing that.  You have imagined that you are being silenced. You can discuss  SARS CoV2 all you want, just don't spit out factually incorrect rubbish or repeat the false claims originating from foreign state sabotage units because someone will hold you accountable and in so doing hold you up for the ridicule merited.

I suggest you approach the pandemic from a different perspective. Learn more about the physiology of a virus, public health, pharmacology, cell biology, biochemistry and health data management. You don't have to be an expert, but start with some formal education. The more you learn, the more you will understand and the management strategy will become understandable. Best of all you may  not be so scared of the science. If you believe that viruses are cells, then identify their ribosomes, mitochondria and other cell characteristics and pickup a Nobel price as a result. If you can show that there is a secret plot to silence the truth, please expose it, but use substantiated evidence and not the claims of  morbidly obese chain smokers living in a Florida trailer park who previously claimed that aliens abducted them and administered an anal probe.

Chon Buri: 12,720

Nonthaburi: 11,280

Songkhla: 10,800

That's the re-write put on the source article by Maya Taylor / the Thaiger.

The source article in the BP says that:

"A further 150,000 doses are for expats who are elderly or are suffering from one of seven underlying conditions, pregnant women, and Thai nationals planning to go abroad such as students."

That's very different, not just from the Thaiger but from the original statement that "645,000 doses will be given to the elderly, women who are more than 12 weeks pregnant, and people with underlying conditions and 150,000 doses will be given to foreign residents who meet the same criteria."

If the BP's correct, it means that the 150,000 doses originally supposedly reserved for expats will now also go to any "Thai nationals planning to go abroad".

Just enough to vaccinate the HiSo locals in each province.

Others who have evidently had far more "formal education" than you would disagree with a great deal of what you say, such as whether a virus is a living organism or not, and they do so at great length in pretty much all scientific journals and forums where it's an almost philosophical debate.

I'd suggest that's where such debate should be, rather than here where it has nothing to do with the topic.

I appreciate that you are afraid and confused.

And I appreciate your condescending arrogant attitude and incorrect assumption that I am confused or afraid in any way.
Tells me all I need to know about you.

It took me a while to get off the floor as I was laughing so hard.
You said "No, we do not use "dead" cells from a virus to develop antibodies."
You even mention "inactivated" cells ! I'm sorry, is it confusing to you that a cell that has been "killed" is a "dead" cell ?

And I never said a virus was a "cell" or that it was alive.

(There seems to be a lot of scientific debate on the matter of whether or not a virus is "alive" as outside of a host it is dormant, like a plant seed, but then becomes "alive" once it has invaded a host. Virologists can then take cells from the activated virus and "inactivate or kill" them in order to make a vaccine - from those "dead" cells.)

From the CDC:
"Inactivated vaccines also fight viruses and bacteria. These vaccines are made by inactivating, or killing, the germ during the process of making the vaccine. "
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/conversations/understanding-vacc-work.html

From the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia:
"Inactivate the virus

Using this strategy, viruses are completely inactivated (or killed) with a chemical. By killing the virus, it cannot possibly reproduce itself or cause disease. The inactivated polio, hepatitis A, influenza (shot), and rabies vaccines are made this way. Because the virus is still "seen" by the body, cells of the immune system that protect against disease are generated."
https://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/vaccine-education-center/making-vaccines/how-are-vaccines-made

Note that I did not say that all vaccines were made that way either.

Next. There are not "4,000 strains of Covid-19".
There may be 4,000 types of Coronaviruses, but according to informed sources (like the CDC and the WHO) there are (currently) the 10 strains of Covid-19 that I listed previously. (And apparently a few "sub-strains" of those as well, but nowhere even close to a hundred in total, let alone 4,000.)

They actually break them down into categories like "Variants of Concern" and "Variants of Interest".

Sheesh - I even linked the CDC article that explained the different COVID-19 variants. (I tried just pasting the links in my previous post and that apparently didn't work so I'll use the "insert link" function instead.)
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/variant-info.html

This article also lists those same variants and a couple more under the heading "Alerts for Further Monitoring".
https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has a list of 4 "Variants of Concern" as well as 4 "Variants of Interest" and another 22 listed as "Variants under monitoring" (and one listed as "De-escalated). That makes 31 Covid-19 variants.
https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/variants-concern

But hey, feel free to contact the CDC, the WHO, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and everyone else to tell them how they are all wrong !
Maybe when they learn they are wrong and you are right, they'll nominate you for the Nobel !

And no, I never said there was some secret plot to cover up anything. I was being sarcastic because, a week ago, the  gov't announced a decree making it illegal to spread information that might "frighten" people.
"It prohibits anyone from "reporting news or disseminating information that may frighten people or intentionally distorting information to cause a misundertstanding about the emergency situation, which may eventually affect state security, order or good morality of the people.
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2156803/fearmongers-targeted-under-prayut-new-order

Hmmm, kind of like how you distorted my post by making it seem like I was claiming that viruses were "cells" ?

Meanwhile, I will get back to debunking BS that others like to post on different forums as that is turning from a leisurely hobby into a full time (unpaid) profession of late.

(Pause to re-read post, have lunch, re-read linked articles.)

At least this is more informative and entertaining that debunking all the "The election was stolen from Trump" posts and the "The covid virus is a hoax created by big pharma" posts I've commented on recently.

Cracking post that pretty much sums up everything I think but was too lazy to compose. Many thanks for your efforts. I speak as a degree educated microbiologist and who worked in 'Big Pharma' (boo!) for 7 years before diverging off to other pastures. I've said it before but one thing TVF has got right on this pandemic is their modding of the covid threads eliminating misinformation (he says begrudgingly).

To put correctly, There is no Pfizer vaccin. Pfizer produces the BionTech researched vaccin under agreement. The labo's researchin vaccins normally need the assistance (and the financial aid) of a pharmaceutical company to produce vaccins. So the BionTech vaccin was produced in the Belgian production unit of Pfizer. Biontech made good money on this agreement, and Pfizer is making more. They now even ask 25% more for a dose than last year.

Look also at Oxford university and AZ for such an agreement.
