These figures are a bit meaningless unless taken in context of normal average number of road deaths in Thailand which I believe is 62 per day so expected number for 6 days would be 372 so less people killed during Songkran!

Good point, I have also checked, it seems indeed there are 62 killed daily on the roads in Thailand (and a million injuries per year, that's a mad number) so actually the road safety campaign was somehow very successful...but saying that is just as meaningless.
