The Dusit did not get the memo. Stayed a few days  in early March and they  had to  verify the room. BKK Novotel  hasn't checked  my room in years. How about large international chains do not check since they hold a deposit.

It really can be a pain in the ass

Standing there while they call someone to go check the room

My wife usually takes longer than me so I will usually call down for the bags to be taken and walk down to checkout so they can check the room while my wife is finsihing up

So, an opportunity for scamming the customer presents itself.

The foundational shift in hotel policies is largely due to more comprehensive customer databases. Upon check-in, guests typically provide identification, such as a national ID or passport along with contact details. This information allows hotels to easily follow up on any issues post check-out, whether it is to charge for unpaid minibar items or address damage to the room.

This will be an issue, especially if a credit card is used, as the hotel is able to add additional charges, which may or may not be justified. And if not, they can file a police report, which may or may not be accurate.

I think the room inspection thing is a pain in the backside, too, but I also think it protects me as much as it protects the hotel.  This is Thailand, after all.
