Thailand since WW2 has been dominated by the military set up by the US 

However before,re the war and evena little bit after Pridi was determined.ined to set up a democracy. Essentially the US prevented this by backing anyone who was entitled "communist" 

So for certain periods Thailand was or was on the road to be truly democratic

And that's why people will be up in arms about the small corruption they can see in Thailand yet ignore the real consequential corruption that goes on at a much higher level, because people don't see it on a ground level

I don’t doubt any of what you written, as it is more or less common knowledge. Still a long way to catch up with the likes of Russia. Now if Trump takes office in November we may well see a bridging of the gap as he strives to emulate his ‘man crush’ Putin.
