I've never really understood the Thai government's approach to this and similar situations.

When prices, determined by the market, like for oil or diesel fuel, become "too expensive", they just borrow from Peter to pay Paul, rather than engage in any meaningful economic reform.

Every time prices go up, Thais bleat to the government for help.  They need to begin bleating for systemic reform, not handouts.
