How aren't they Thai culture?

Because they are busy for tourists??

I wouldn't personally go myself because there are many other less busy places just as good, and I know that was your point

But I am sure Jay Fai and the Thipsamai family feel thier establishments they have had forever and worked hard for decades

My point was that anyone REALLY immersing themselves in Thai culture would eat at places normal working class Thai families go to eat, not overpriced places full of tourists that MOST Thai people could not afford to use and probably would not use even if they could due to them being overpriced. I have several quite wealthy Thai friends and despite having plenty of money they are all very much looking for value for money when they eat out.

He's a tourist and went to tourist spots

By the way

The most famous Thai person in the world was at Jay Fai a few weeks ago

But I guess she isn't "Thai" enough for the miserables on here.....

I don't know about that

I think so many want to pigeonhole Thailand as some poor backwater country that's in their imagination of what Thailand is

As you said, you have plenty of wealthy Thai friends

They don't all eat on the street stalls and 60 baht places

There is probably more fine dining Thai restaurants in Bangkok than most fine dining places in any city in the world

There are a lot of new restaurants popping up that are "elevated street food" opened by Thai chefs that had worked in those fine dining Thai restaurants

And I've been to a bunch of them and I am usually the only farang

Doesn't make them less Thai....

But

I am in agreement with you

I'd never go to Jay Fai because I'd never wait in line

And I love the atmosphere of street food and street stalls

But that's not all of Thailand.....

Hey man

I'm just relieved I don't have to go through life as miserable and negative as so many on here and so many expats in Thailand

It really has to be such a shitty way to go through life.....

No they don't always eat at street stalls they often go to upmarket restaurants but they are as I said looking for value for money in those upmarket restaurants.
