The threat of censorship now hangs over the heads of violators. Thailand’s PM Prayut Chan-o-cha signed the restriction order, which was previously published in the Royal Gazette. The order says that the media is barred from publishing/broadcasting information that foments fear or has the intention of distorting information and causes confusion, which the report says may affect national security/stability. So this definition of 'fake or distorted news' is defined by the government.
This means that anything they don't like will now be deleted. The word they're looking for is censorship.

It seems to me, that as long as the media don't publish news issued by the government, there is not a big risk for them.

The government themself however has a big problem. According to their own rules they have no news to publish, because fake and distorted news is the only thing they ever publish. Bummer for them.

Desperate times for a desperate government but at the end of the day they only do as they are told so you have to look elsewhere to find where the real desperation lies.

Article Quote: Thailand’s PM Prayut Chan-o-cha signed the restriction order, which was previously published in the Royal Gazette. The order says that the media is barred from publishing/broadcasting information that “foments fear or has the intention of distorting information and causes confusion”, which the report says may affect national security/stability.

Further, it has been reported that The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission can revoke the licenses of media who are seen as violating the rules. The NBTC will monitor the news with an eye towards what can be considered distorted/fearmongering. They will also be obligated to notify the police of the violator’s identity.

People who are found guilty might have their IP address traced and subsequently have their internet access revoked by the NBTC

Here it is. This is essentially a "Blanket Silence stomp" and not a scare tactic.. Now time to really look at your post before send.

Yes, that puts and end to a whole lot of chaff. Good.

I don't think just deleted, but the term ironfisted has come to mind.

It looks like it and unfortunately Thaiger Talk will have to shut down anything which compromises the forum and it's members, collectively or individually.

That means posts may simply disappear or threads get locked if there's anything which could be construed as against these draconian measures.

BE WARNED, there will not be any repercussions for accidental mentions but any malicious posts may incur a holiday for the OP.
