Warner first sought medical help at the end of June for a persistent two-week headache at the Darent Valley Hospital. After … …

That particular hospital doesn't have a great reputation (I used to live just down the road from there). But it is an NHS hospital - so why was the £20,000 needed?

Disgraceful that the abnormal brain scan was dismissed and not followed up on and hopefully the people concerned in that decision making will be disciplined and re trained. However the nature of his cancer would tend to indicate that even id diagnosed there was little if anything that could be done to effectively treat it.

I can only surmise that the family raised this money with a view to private treatment, I guess in the circumstances they may have been clutching at straws and have an understandable lack of faith in the NHS.

As I said - that particular hospital has a poor reputation. My experience was that they "lost me" when I was transferred there for physiotherapy following my discharge from a central London hospital, for a broken leg, and didn't manage to find me again until long after I had returned to full time work.

Maybe I have been lucky, but on the thankfully very rare occasions that I have needed it I have found the NHS very good when it comes to urgent treatment - but you are probably right, on this occasion there was likely nothing that could have been done by the time the cancer was diagnosed.,
