Withholding tax on bank account?

Curious...I just noticed that after opening a Bangkok bank account last month it earned interest but I also notice a small Withholding tax.

Is this a government tax, or some type of bank fee?

And I wonder how they determine the amount  and frequency?

Thanks.

May have found my answer...so assume I may see this monthly and it appears to be 15% of the interest paid.

Interest paid to a non-resident company or individual is subject to withholding tax at 15% unless it can be reduced under a tax treaty. Royalties paid to a non-resident company or individual is subject to a 15% final withholding tax and can be reduced under a tax treaty.

I believe it can be reclaimed if you have a Tax number. But the bank will probably charge you a couple of hundred Baht for a letter saying that you have had Bht 100 deducted !
