This is a long time dream of mine (I am French). I seriously considered doing it about 12 years ago, then circumstances prevented me from it.

One of the difficulties was getting a Thai registered bike into China (technically an import), I wonder how this guy managed it.

Route taken was clearly the best with large parts of the journey in friendly nations to Thailand like China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, EU. Doable.

He “ managed it” having a Thai Passport. Welcome in all those countries.  The other “difficulty” is your western nationality making it impossible I reckon to get visas. Even then you’d be a target in all those nonEU countries he went through. Bad Idea……Doubt you’d  get the bike or yourself into China or Kaz for starters. Russia would be impossible. No other serious route either…..

I'd like to know if he dealt with any issues at the various borders.

Good business English for sure, no nationality antagonism as Thailand irrelevant internationally &  everyone’s friend  …..and they would assume he was broke being Thai….. no bribes or robbery or kidnap then 😅🤣
