Tim,

I love the Thaiger and enjoy both the local and regional news.  I am miffed that some feel the need to make vile or offensive comments.  Strange we live in such a World where debate has no place.    Everyone has an opinion, and I am no different.  Thus, I must respectfully disagree about your ideas on lock down. There are no viruses that care about curfews or lockdowns.  Such is the case with human nature.  This virus is not going away and will continue to mutate into various strains.  Lockdowns and vaccines are human kind trying to dictate Mother Nature’s cruel actions.   As disappointing as it is, Mother Nature has always has been and always will be in charge.
Having said all that, I have been vaccinated.  I believe that if you are in a high risk category, then you should take precautions.  For the rest of us, life can not stop.  We have to keep going.  The shutdowns are killing more people through depression and starvation than the damn virus.
What is my point?  Even the expert confirmed that the covid virus can be acquired and spread post vaccination.  It isn’t going to stop.  Lock downs will not stop the spread.  Only when it has reached a state of equilibrium around the world will it subside.  It is time to let Mother Nature’s gift to us, our natural immune system, to do it’s job.  If a vaccine is available, by all means get it, it will make it easier.  Lock downs for everyone do little, but destroy economies, communities, and the condition of being human.  If you believe my opinion is cruel, I agree, but the unfortunate fact is Mother Nature is in charge, and like Covid, does not care about lock downs, curfews, or even masks.  She is the one calling all the shots, not you and not me.
If I ran the world, I would advocate vaccines and do everything possible to give everyone the opportunity to receive it.
Next, and or during the first action, I would advocate the protection of those who are at high risk of death from the virus.
After that, the world, human nature, Mother Nature are going to do as they please, right, wrong, or indifferent.

Very Respectfully yours,

Kevin Tanner

I'm old enough to remember "flatten the curve" where the goal of the public health measures way back in 2020 was to avoid stressing the healthcare systems to the point of breaking. This was everywhere managed in a range from pretty well to completely ineptly. Because a message wasn't formulated that was palatable to all factions developed and excess deaths skyrocketed. The flat curve was also supposed to buy time to get the vaccine in place. But certain countries failed to do this secure in the knowledge that their initial success was a predictor of ultimate success with or without a vaccine.

Oops.

So now we have a situation with a very transmissible variant free to keep mutating in the unvaccinated population and a very large population of vaccinated individuals where the new mutations can go to test themselves. In the US there is an unvaccinated population roughly equivalent (a bit larger) than Thailand's. The US is seeing about 4x the new cases as Thailand (63K yesterday) and at the same time is testing far fewer people than it used to (600K/d down from almost 2M/d). We're also seeing an increase in breakthrough cases among the vaccinated.

You're correct that it's always Mother Nature driving but we have shown that, while we know what to do to control the severity of the outbreak, we are completely unwilling to use that knowledge effectively.

I agree in principle to what you are saying, but this is not strictly a virus from mother natures kitchen, it was developed by humans in a lab in Wuhan and escaped from what i have heard and read so far, maybe i missed something along the way?

I'm still trying to figure out why the Admin bothered to set up a whole sub-forum to discuss any and everything to do with covid, while all the members seem intent on posting "covid" related topics in almost every other sub-forum.

Could be worse I suppose. They could set up a "Trump" sub-forum and then watch as all the other sub-forums get flooded with nothing but Trump related topics.

Which would still be better that watching "football" any day of the week although other activities are more entertaining, such as watching paint dry and toenails grow.

The "watching grass grow" sub-forum didn't last long as too many people were in there trying to cut it and smoke it, not realizing it wasn't "that" kind of grass.

0o0o0 - just in time for the "watch the washing machine drain" game !
