This smells like Chop Suey….aka Chinese criminal gangs at work.  But then the Thai government has always welcomed with open arms, anyone Chinese. And this despite all common sense warnings that criminal elements will take advantage of the recent 90 visas, and because they consider Thai officials easier to corrupt than those in their own country.

Slight problem with your theory - the alleged suspects are all Thai from the Land of Scams.
