How bad is it ?

Let's see, in 2020 it killed about 11 times more people in the USA than the "common flu" usually does every year.
In Canada it was about 7 times more.

It predominately affects the elderly (60+) and those with underlying health issues (like diabetes or immune system issues or cancer, etc).

Young, healthy adults may suffer few, if any symptoms.
For many people, the symptoms resemble a mild cold. For others, a raging flu.
For some, it's a death sentence.

However, of note, it seems that if you've received a vaccination (of any vaccine) there is almost no chance that you will experience the worst symptoms if you do get infected.

For a young, healthy, Olympic level athlete who was last infected around New Years, there shouldn't have been much problem getting back into shape in time.

For old, lazy geezers that run out of breath trying to climb onto their favourite bar stool, it's a different story.

Isnt that what the CDC is for?

That's actually where I got the info from. I looked at the number of deaths in 2019 from the flu and in 2020 from Covid.

As for the bit about preventing the most severe symptoms, there are reams of articles and images from different sites (primarily if you are searching for something like "vaccine comparisons")

Like this table from the American College of Emergency Physicians.
vaccination.table.thumb.png.a5bcd04f757bd29d4243b7320e868ac6.png

I had a different one (image) in the post I made on "that other forum" a couple months ago. It was very similar to this one. Can't remember which thread it was in though

Yeah, those were the numbers against the original and alpha variants. Delta's lower and more variable. I've seen numbers as low as 39% for overall protection and +/-90% for severe and worse (for the mRNA shots). The 39% was an outlier from Israel. Other numbers were more in the 60% range.

From the CDC.
2018-2019 Flu season - Estimated deaths - 34,000
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html

Deaths from Covid in 2020 - 385,000.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

Note - there are a lot of differing numbers on the CDC site. One page noted flu deaths at "24,000-62,000" in 2019/2020.
Another page had a chart that claimed 345,000 people had died from covid in 2020.

Most of their numbers, especially for the past 3 years, are considered "estimates".
