What happend to the "Knock" at the door before entering. Are hotel employees not trained to "Knock" at the door, even if they are entering empty rooms?

Not in lower grade Thai hotels. If it was a Hilton or a Marriott then maybe as they have an international standard

Agreed....but even in many low grade hotels the key card in linked to the external indicator light highliting that the room has occupant inside. However this is simple common sense in the hospitality industry to "Knock" and seek permission to enter a room once it is allocated to a visitor irrespective of the scenario. I am not sure how these people are briefed when they are employed to such industry.

I hear what you say. I worked for 40+ years in the hotel industry and in every property I worked in you knocked before entering ANY room even if it was listed as vacant. However my experience in some low grade and even some not so low grade properties in Thailand has shown me that this is not always taught to staff in Thailand.
