There is a saying about a camel’s nose and a tent that comes to mind.

The problem isn’t so much about safety, although the Chinese to their credit are more sensitive to that than most populations. The problem is the Chinese people don’t want to spend money right now. This isn’t a Thailand issue, so there is no Thailand fix.

A ringing endorsement of the RTP 😝

Yes. It’s certainly a lateral solution to the problem. Reform of the RTP would be the obvious step, however it seems that that strategy has been placed in the too hard basket. As EdwardV has noted the major obstacle is the cost of travel. Barring a cash handout to every Chinese tourist entering the country, there’s not a lot TIT can do.

I see now 4days later there is some serious backtracking on this with claims that it was never under consideration. I wonder if they figured out Chinese police could easily be followed by Chinese army or did they maybe realise how much a real policeman would laugh at the bumbling inept and corrupt Royal Thai Police?

The Chinese regular police are usually not armed. Based upon my own experiences with the Chinese police (Beijing, Shanghai) they also tend to be more friendly and honest than  the Thais when dealing with foreigners.  I doubt the Chinese police want to deal with Thai type problems. Now if, Thailand were to let US coppers in with their guns, Patong and Pattaya would be like a shoot out at the OK corral.  😃
