Honestly? Because people aren´t watching where they walk, these triggers news attention and road construction ?

And why in hell should this guy even think about complaining?

A few days ago, I tripped on a rubber floor mat in a local restaurant. Fortunately, I caught myself, no harm done. Four years ago, not so lucky. I dislocated my shoulder tripping over a similar floor mat.  Both times, I was wearing sandals.  I noticed the unfortunate man in this video also was wearing sandals.  Thinking about it, I realize the open sole at the tip of the sandal snags whatever it can very easily.  Closed toe shoes and sneakers seem less prone to snagging.  As an older person, I know I tend not to pick-up my feet as I walk, making snagging on any small protuberance, like a slightly elevated sidewalk slab, more likely.   As falls are one of an older person's greater risks, I've decided not to wear sandals when going outside any more.   Sandals are just an added risk I don't need.

In Patong, Phuket in the tourist area, there were three Pelican Crossing installed (a zebra crossing with a walk, and a do not walk light), one on the beach road and two on the road parallel to it.

The tourists would cross thinking it is safe but then almost be run over by motorbikes and cars that ignored the red signal, so they took them down a few months later, it is now safer to cross while dodging the oncoming traffic than to rely on Thais drivers following the rules.

This is one of the negative aspects of Thai life but there are lots of other aspects which are great just in case I am accused of being anti-Thailand.

My friend was killed in Pattaya late last year crossing at the crosswalk with the pedestrian light at Traphaya Rd and Pratumnak Rd.  A left turning car tried to beat the light but it was full on red and he just kept going.  His own dashcam showed it all.  (BTW-Before the Thai bashing starts, the driver was British.)  Never' ever trust a crossing even if you have the light.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

True, whenever I cross a road here I constantly look both ways until I have crossed even on one-way streets as even one-way streets are used as two-way streets, even by the police as I have personally observed, I wonder if they have to give themselves a ticket afterward. 

In fact no matter which country I am in I do the same as I used to work in Germany and other countries from Monday to Friday Afternoon, and be in the UK each weekend until Monday morning so I could easily forget which way to look.
