Make a joke about abortion, like Sarah Silverman, and millions of people will defend you.

But a woman cracjs a joke, about any other form of killing humans, and its like the sky falls down.

Shock jock type humor is not a crime.

Slightly insensitive so soon after though, and in what most would find bad taste.

The taste is good, the taste is conedy. Think about slapstick, an elenent of comedy is schadenfreude. Universal human impulses cannot be immoral. Its not like she singled out grieving families, to deride their sufferings to their faces. Its just a humorous aside, other people were probably making.

Shock jock type humor is not a crime.

It's about timing and context. It's also in the construct and the delivery.  Don Rickles, Moms Mabley and a handful of others could get away with insulting people, because there is an absence of malice and they  offered the comments from a position rooted in decency. Brilliant comedians like  Jimmy Carr sometimes offer up jokes that come from a place of angry nastiness and the jokes fall flat because of their foundation.
