That'll do wonders for the hoped for uptake of tourism from China. No mention as to where a 14 year old got the gun from in the story. Daddies?................................It is becoming very obvious with reports of people drawing or using guns on on a weekly basis that there are way too many guns knocking about in Thailand.

In this instance it was a blank firing replica converted to fire bullets.

Sure. How about simply "madness" (obviously!)?

" (he) had a record of getting treatment for a mental health condition at Rajvithi hospital, but had recently stopped taking his medication, Mr Sukvimol said. "

Interesting to know what medication he was on.

It would not suprise me if it is something related to schizophrenia. I have a very close relative who the last 30 years has been going totally nuts every single time he stopped his medication for schizophrenia, and that includes going twice to prison for some mad rampage, once for stabbing someone, multiple times in mad houses (obviously), I remember once many years ago he was going about with a shot gun saying everyone that the Chinese mafia was after him (he lives in France) etc... etc... Luckily it never went as far as killing people altough very close. So what that kid did after he stopped taking his medication sounds very familiar to me.

Agree with you, @1135914801; interesting to know what medication or, perhaps, what drugs.

Now, there is a growing hypothesis in my country -- the USA -- that most or all of the highly visible shootings in public places are "arranged".  By whom, we can only guess.  But for what purpose is easy to surmise: much stricter control and confiscation of firearms.  Is that now coming to Thailand?    At this stage, too early to say, but I will be watching the news for any repeat performances.

Still, where did HE get that one?

Someone must have converted it, plus organized the rounds.

I find it more interesting, that people can decide themselves, to take or not take this meds.

Worldwide there are every now and then these reports, that mental ill people hurt or kill others, and the explanation:

They stopped taking the meds.

So, why are they be able to stop taking this meds?

Why are they "integrated" in society, but are ticking bombs?

Totally agree. It was exactly the case with the relative I am mentioning in my comment above, only after coming out of prison was he forced to take his medication...for a while. And then it happened again and again, beating up his own father, got arrested, sent to a mad house a few months and out again, and again and again. I heard recently that he has admitted his condition and make sure now to take his medication... the thing is, I heard that one before. How he has not killed anyone yet is a miracle.

Replicas can be bought legally on lazada and other online retailers. Apparently he did the conversion himself. Pretty bright kid by all accounts.

Oh I get it! The anti-firearms campaigners were frustrated that they weren’t able to cut through with their disarming civilians crusade, so they induced a young lad to randomly start shooting people at a major shopping centre. In doing so they achieved their ends by demonstrating that guns are evil in the hands of ordinary citizens.

On a serious note it’s become apparent through the reporting that the great tragedy here is not the loss of life and pain inflicted on the affected families, but the potential loss of Chinese tourist dollars.

You already see on this thread the attempt to plant the seed of a "conspiracy", so just consider their position on forced medication. One of the reasons western society moved away from forced medication were the horrific abuses that occurred when far too many sane people people were medicated because of their political or social beliefs. Many of the people on the streets in big cities today are the mentally ill. They are usually not properly treated nor medicated and therefore cause problems.
