Roger that, me either.  But that's not what happened here.  "Demand" is a mischaracterization.

True

But even just worrying that you can't listen to the last few songs on "your playlist" is pretty absurd

Being a musician, if I was doing a set and was not allowed to finish it then I would be p i zzzd off a bit. But for canned music out of a box, nope. Would just make me leave, go have a drink somewhere else, roll one up and toke away.

It was the manner in which this was done. Russian

Finally!  Yes.  Feels like the pervasive binary brain cancer.  No nuance.  No middle ground.  Black or White.  Right or Wrong.  Good or Bad.  IMO, both parties had a share in being wrong here.  The Russians were the most offensive is all.

It's not even crystal clear that the narrator was in the wrong at all.. kind of depends on how the restaurant presents the music feature and usually operates about it..

anyways to me the most notable point in all this is how some here seem to be nostalgic of a world in which one could behave like the Russians in this story with impunity. 🤮

Yes of course

Pretty shitty

I just wouldn't care

Well I wouldn't want to be in the place anymore once that happened so I'd just leave

Is that not political? We all know who bankrolls them; NGOs are not neutral. And governments cooling relations, will purge of foreign-backed elements. Probably Russia's anti-gay hysteria, is the counterpart of American Russophobia

I don't know

Pointing out likely probabilities is nor racism

The vast majority of Thai-Farang relationships in Phuket would be a farang meeting a girl not from Phuket who either works in a bar/restaurant/hotel all looking for a farang, or aren't opposed to it

Meeting an actual girl from Phuket lookin for a farang would be in the minority

That's not racist to say so

My point was the term 'picked up', you know as you would buy a loaf of bread etc.

Most tourist do not hang around at the few girly bars left in Phuket, but it seems some still do hence the 'pick up' attitude by some.

I met some Middle Eastern guys a few years ago in London, they had daddies money etc, Ferraris, night clubs, 1000 pounds a night white English girls, they also thought all British women could be picked up as they had a limited experience of them.

My usual response to any farang guy in Phuket thinking all the girls are like that is to tell them to go into a bank, a hospital etc and offer to buy the women working there and find out long it would take before they were beaten up.

I live in a large gated community in Kathu (non-tourist area as most of Phuket is) where 98% of the residents are Thai, I can guarantee I would end up dead within a day if I used that attitude towards the locals.

You might be surprised.

Money loosens most people's morals at some price point.

You must mix with the wrong sort and it has blurred your view on life.

I can understand it, I was sat on a plane next to a Spanish guy once and after an hour or two of chatting he told me I was different to all the other Brits he had come across in Spain over the last few decades, he then mentioned the hoards of beer swilling Brits who go to Spain where they are constantly drunk, abusive and rude during their two week holidays.

I told him the majority of us Brits avoid those sort of people and places.

I have seen it in Thailand as well, some guys spend two weeks hanging around certain types of establishments and genuinely think that is real life here.

But as I said I live in a Thai area and so do not come across such types very often.

The problem with assumptions is that you just make an ass out of you and me....

Amazing how racists love excuse racism or to argue that something isn't racist, it's easy to spot because the arguments are themselves racist.

Is there any evidence that Russians, are particularly hostike to LGBT? Because thats an anti-Putin canard

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth in Russia face formidable barriers to enjoying their fundamental rights to dignity, health, education, information, and association. In Russia, antipathy towards homosexuality and gender variance is not new—LGBT people there have long faced threats, bullying, abuse inside their families, and discrimination—but the 2013 “gay propaganda” law has increased that social hostility. The law has also had a stifling effect on access to affirming education and support services, with harmful consequences for LGBT youth.

Well Ukranians too are Rus, or East Slavics; lets hope the two branches of the same tree, find themselves peace, rather than feeling hatred, for nations ofcstrangers, over what is not a sinple issue.

Perhaps exposure to the West and its cultural exports, is what caused this

It is a simple issue.  Ukraine is Ukraine.  Russia is Russia.   Russia started a dumb war.  Thus, I have Russophobia.

That assumption is racism, or at least Russophobia. Not all Rissians hate homosexuals.

Right,, at least homosexuals aren`t!

But even they, like in other homophob societies, are often seen turning against "their own", if the group they are in starts acting!

Absolute rot! It has been ruled occasionally by Russia - it was less part of Russia than any of the countries in the UK - and they are still hoping to be independant.

FFS,  Ukraine became an independent country in 1991. For god's sake, read history.
