Mixed vaccines

Just had notification from PKK hospital as registered for vaccination there to come on 27 However my booked AZ vaccine is now Sinovac followed at indeterminate time by AZ

I am 61 little bit overweight and take blood pressure tablets but all in control no other issues

Not entirely comfortable with this so contacted sis in UK who is nurse she spoke to doctor colleague

Their advice something is better than nothing but certainly do not consider yourself safe with Sinovac, and to return to UK i would need another AZ after my AZ as a second injection (in fact get another AZ asap regardless)

Still not convinced but something is better than nothing still ringing in my ears!

Sis gave you wise advice.

Something is better then nothing and the UK is opening up completely so would they still require one to be double vaccinated or did Boris agree on something else?

Go with your sisters advice, I'm pushing 68, high blood pressure, overweight (quite a bit) bad knees, vertigo & back pain prevent effective exercise these days, not had any jabs yet even though I'm registered with about 6 different organisations, take what you can now & hopefully if the 2nd dose is AZ then you can later pay for a top up if you need to travel.

I got my jab today of Astra Zeneca in Bangkok.  They were dispensing both Sinovac and Astra Zeneca.  My appointments specifically said Astra Zeneca.  Had they attempted to give me Sinovac, I would have refused.   It has been shown that Astra Zeneca as a first shot followed by the mRNA vaccine Pfizer is extremely effective.  I know that Angela Merkel in Germany had her choice of vaccines and she personally selected Astra Zeneca followed by Moderna.

There are no studies that I am aware of with Sinovac mixed with other vaccines.  That being the case, if I were you, I would wait for an Astra Zeneca shot and then follow it up with either a second Astra Zeneca shot or better yet a Pfizer or Moderna if and when they become available.   If you take Sinovac you are pretty much acting without any studies on whether a jab of another vaccine is advisable.  If you go with a second jab of Sinovac you are getting vaccinated but with the product with the lowest effective rate of prevention.
