Sadly this scam only works in Thailand because everyone know that real Royal Thai Police officers are corrupt. Despite the denials of the police that any real police officers are involved in this I must confess to being les than 100% convinced!

Fake, real, what's the difference?   You get shaken down either way.

THe difference is the taste of Thailand and corruption.  Once criminals are inside law enforcement, you have a whole new range of problems - Although in Thailand it isn't that new.

THe fact that the police have had to issues denials of their own involvement at all reflects so badly on the public's perception of the police in the first place
