Overstay of 3 years and his age is now 49. Has a wife and kids and just messed up his life and theirs. Talk about not the sharpest tack in the box as he is almost 50yrs old and that was his golden key for the retirement visa to kick in. What a dunse. Family need a dad and mom if all possible to keep it that way.

his permissible stay duration amounted to three months, with his visa slated to expire on June 11 of 2020.

Not that it changes something for the guy, but for better reporting:

He is "only" almost 3 years overstaying!

In June 2020 there was already the free covid extension in place, WITHOUT having to go to immigration for a stamp. That was till end of July 2020. And got extended till end of September, 2020.

First from there on it was again needed, to get to immigration. With a letter from the embassy, I think, stating that this people couldn't go back home.

So, in reality, he would have had to extend for covid reasons, but not before  the end of September.

🙊

He still can go to Cambodia or Nam. His kid can visit him there, then

And his wife, he divorced her already, So ...

My guess is, like it happened to so many, it seems:

He did not get the letter from the embassy or consulate, that he would have needed from September 2020 onwards. Not all embassys, I got told, wanted to support their citizen this way.

Which would have gotten him always 60 day extensions for 1900 Baht. And brought him to 2022, where he could get a new Non im for child support and travel again for visa runs.

Well at least he did not burn anything down except his being able to stay here and come back.

Oh, he is young enough.

In 10 years he can move back from Cambodia or such. He even can visit from there, without anyone knowing about ;-)
