Why not name the bakery? As long as they have not stated anything that is untrue the bakery has no legal action to take for defamation.

It is advisable to tread very carefully when making negative comments.  The libel laws greatly favour those who feel they have been defamed.

I think so. Don't accuse out in public or you will be liable to pay costs incurred because the accused was not yet found guilty or negligient. After the fact of guilty is another point, but before the verdict of guilty the accused suffered lost revenue prematurely which you probably will be paying back.

On another note, not all desserts are made equally and have different ingredients that can be high quality - mediocre quality. Price can be based on that and 300baht may not be over priced if it is one that makes your mouth orgasm or better called foodgasm. You get what you pay for in some cases.

Only seven quid a slice. Cheap, if you like that sort of stuff. 😃

Yep.  Try buying an American New York cheesecake in that appalling City, or in London, Paris, Rome, Milam,  Berlin, Frankfurt, Singapore,  etc. etc. and you will know what being ripped off really is.

Yep I agree but they have got the receipt for the cake so posting the price and the name of the bakery should be no issue

Having the receipt would I suspect be considered proof that the statement was true

I'd imagine a lot would use Philadelphia creme cheese but you don't have to, obviously

Capitalist world out there, worst after the pandemic. Make sense to ask for the price before ordering.

Again, the cost is based on time and love and ingredeints for cost. High quality ingredients up the cost. There are two separate components, the filling and the crust. My duaghter has made it here in our kitchen in CM, and we did not use the highest quality most exepnsive ingredients but was still costly to make. Have to say yummy. Add in the 3rd component as in a special fruit topping and then the cost rises yet again.

Take for example vanilla extract vs vanilla flavoring. The cost is quite high if you use it.

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE CRUST

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs, from 12 whole crackers
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt

FOR THE FILLING

  • 32 oz (four 8-oz blocks) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon packed lemon zest, from 1 lemon
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, from 1 lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream

Buying small quantities for a one-off will almost always cost at least two to three times more than buying in bulk. Price - especially in the catering business - is very much what the customer is prepared to pay. Although in this case not having the price on the menu is not entirely honest.

Yeah you hit on the head and understand it as well as I do. I know the food business as in producing containers. For the small angle, I know from real R&D and home experiments or just having quality time hanging with my daughter making things in the kitchen. The no price on the menu maybe they cannot control as is up and down, and so cannot justify a set price, and then will not or just lazy and not willing to put changed pricing stickers on it or continually print new menus. But in any case the server needs to present the slice price iimediately when it is ordered or inquired about and then leave that up to the customer to decide. CCTV with sound in the restaurant can sort out any negative feeling or sour social media afterward. No knowing what the cost of the slice would be. Just not enough info.

Most of the ingredients are already in my kitchen, most people's I guess.I might even have vanilla extract.Philly cheese is good because you can get it in handy packets, adapt the recipe to fit the amount of cheese.I've retired  so I don't remember the exact quantities on my recipe but that looks like it going to be a big cheese cake.36 hours is the maximum I wanted to keep one in the cooling,it doesn't go bad but it not quite right.

The point is go all out or reduce costs. This will be the end price.
