There will be no coup because nothing has changed.  The Military are still in charge. I suggest that we all just live with this reality.  Actually, it seems to work for Thailand.

The problem is the military are complicit in agitating discontent, by offering false hope. They would have far more credibility in my eyes if they dispensed with the charade of fair elections. The elections have been a waste of public money and of everybody’s time. Prayut should have come out and said, there will be no elections. They could have at least been admired for their honesty.

It was all done to placate the US, who insisted on them holding elections, but that's all it is, smoke and mirrors,  so that the US can say their wishes (demands) had been fulfilled.  The West will never understand Asia.

What Thai democracy? Thailand can never be truly democratic so long as the army have a stranglehold on Thai politics and the army will not give up that stranglehold unless forced to.

Everybody Forgets just how Dreadful the Totally Corrupt Incompetent Civilian MPs were.
Self Interested Only. Army had little choice but to intervene to prevent Complete Chaos.

Ask most working class Thai's and they really don't care.   It's a middle class issue and their numbers are fairly small. Demonstrations in Bangkok buy students and middle class, never translate to Nationwide trouble,

Of course it was. They want it both ways. A narrative for the international community (we are pro democracy) and a narrative for the local community (know your station in life and accept it) which is euphemistically called Thai style democracy.

Military dictatorships are a rare phenomena these days, with only two in existence (Myanmar and Chad) and the ruling class in Thailand are desperate, for the sake of their international image, not to be lumped in with either of those regimes.

Pure military dictatorships may be very rare, but if you include countries where there is only a facade of democracy and where actual control is enforced by the army or aligned militias, then there is quite a long list. A list which, unfortunately, at the moment includes Thailand.

You do know that Thailand is the only country in Asia never to have been colonized, Has fought approx 1000 years of wars to be established, from the days of Siam, They are proud strong and capable people.
