Maybe enforcing all the rules all of the time would be a better plan.

Can’t see much change happening the police seem to be asleep when I see them checking road junctions and especially pedestrian crossings, I see countless infringement’s happening in front of them in the short time I’m passing and they are oblivious to any and all of them.

Why only during festival and holiday seasons. Make it regular. I really appreciate the enforcement agencies which set-up road blocks along the highway in Prachuap Khiri Khan everyday to summon those speeding vehicles. Each time I pass by in my motorcycle I see many cars and 4 wheelers are being sidelined for further actions.

In other words, go out and get the money becausee we have a long holiday and drinking good booze and second girlfirnds cost money.

Not for the income of the BiBs! The BiBs officially getting a cut of all fines.

Somewhere between 10 or 30% should go into a bonus system for all cops in that station.

And even local daily offender c/would learn, if they w/could have to pay every day!

All traffic laws should be enforced by you RTP muppets and these laws should be obeyed by the general road user. Of course road rules are meant to be broken according to what I see and experience every time I get in my vehicle here. I used to love driving but I never enjoy a leisurely drive here. As for motorbike riding, I gave up that passion when I moved to Bangkok. I couldn't be bothered risking my life in order to get out of Bangkok in order to go for a nicer ride.

There are six 'check points' between my home and Phitsanulok City whichis 30km away.

NEVER have is seen them pull ANYONE over for speeding???? (Do they have a fast enough vehicle, or any vehicle?) I sometimes park close by to check on what these muppets are doing. My BIL 'attends' and gets his pay.

Mostly it is an excuse to sit all day playing on their phones, watching some old TV, or sleeping.

With over 40k temples in Thailand, about 34k of them in use,

The fact they have to pick 10 laws to enforce shows the lamentable state of  traffic policing in Thailand. Both the police and the courts are not up to dealing with this.

Have to agree with you on the phone culture but say for speeding best avoid Sakon Nakhon towards Udon Thani as it's a ticket for 100km or over and there is always a big queue to pay.

Seems Thais don't look for the mobile camera man standing in the central reservation on the dual carriageway.

THere are various speed cameras in use - some as you say in the central reservation others are affixed to lighting or overhead signs .

If caught a motorist is either stopped down the road or sent a ticket. THank go the Thai police seldom engage in car chases.

Up til recently there was virtually no follow up on tickets as there was no system to do so also there was no [points system on D/Ls this is in the process of changing so it remains to be seen how effective it is.

Of course speed is only a factor in about 25% of crashes - and one has to remember that 75% or crashes are m/cs too so concentrating on what is perceived as aberrant driving of "fortuners" is in fact not a significant factor in overall road safety. 

 

Checkpoints are one of the least effective measures to take in terms of road safety - they can even increase risk by interfering with traffic.

Shame these '10 laws' are not enforced all the time then Thailand would maybe not have the lamentable number of annual road deaths it does every year! I suspect this is just another photo op to try to convince a gullible public that the Thai Police are fit for purpose when in fact anyone with a brain can see they are not.

Gonna take more than these "10 laws" to sort out road safety in Thailand. It's a public health problem that the current (and previous) governments don't understand

Well... I have been riding between Phu Tab Boek and Sukohthai few times. But I have not seen any check-point along highway 12.

The 'check points' are usually a tent quite a few metres from the road, with 4,5,6 men playing on their phones or watching a CRT TV. Hard to spot sometimes, and a complete farce.

so you don't understand "big numbers" or how this is confirmation bias? Anecdotal observations about driving behaviour are worthless when it comes to understanding road safety issues.
