Guest1 Posted July 25, 2023 #318363 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Welcome to the world. Soon, you will experience that with arabic people, too Like the western world is experiencing this for longer. As bigger the foreign communities grow, as more it is noticeable Think about the china towns in american cities, the centralstation quarters in some european cities. Tourists is one thing, but as soon migrantsare coming, they need a living. The easiest way is to serve other migrants and tourists from home
palooka Posted July 25, 2023 #318416 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Come on many Farlung do this also here in Thailand. Live in a closed community with other Farlungs and token Thais, club house, swimming pools etc, conveniently has a golf course on site. Shop at malls only, eat western foods only, would not be caught dead in a non-western motor vehicle, (have nightmares of being seen in a pickup), fly to Europe twice a year to shop for clothes and those other staples that the local supermarket just cannot supply. 1

Yes they do but I do think there is a bit of a difference A lot of those farang are involved with Thais, go to establishments that have Thai staff Even the most closed minded farang are dealing with Thais a lot But here in Vancouver, so many Chinese are absolutely living a Chinese life in Canada, and I mean zero interaction with non-Chinese They have their own food apps, own Uber Some neighborhoods are almost 100% Chinese language signs 1

Not a big deal as far as I am concerned, unless they decide to play the race card to claim entitlements that other people don't have. Ramanathan.P Posted July 26, 2023 #318562 Share Posted July 26, 2023 Basically in countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore all those dishes around the globe are easily availble. It is not a big issue for foreigners to live in these countries consuming their original food

HolyCowCm Posted July 26, 2023 #318707 Share Posted July 26, 2023 It’s a gimmick for social media by this twerp. San Francisco has a large China town and if you go through the areas they are obviously disconnected from the outside influences.

Agreed When someone is complaining about immigrants not assimilating I point out that most of our grandparents didn't either They all lived in areas that were almost all their same ethnicity and had all their own type of establishments
Karolyn Posted July 26, 2023 #318782 Share Posted July 26, 2023 One of the ironies is, when you have a multicultural society, with freedom of association, races choose segregation anyway. 'British' South Asians are notorious for this. Even as they secularise and reject the traditions, of their parents and grandparents, they still associate 90% among their own. Pinetree Posted July 29, 2023 #319525 Share Posted July 29, 2023 How many property adverts include 'European Kitchen and fittings', as though that's necessarily a plus. My kitchen is in a separate building outside the main house. Inside the main house it has no resemblance to a European property, bar perhaps my many books and book cases. I also live with Thais fairly close by. The nearest farang is some German chap, Ikm away. I've never met him. Am in integrated? No, I'm not, I just live my life and my Thai locals live theirs and when we meet, we are polite and friendly with each other and then go our separate ways. Maybe jealous is the wrong word "cranky" may aptly apply, eg> "why do they love you more than me?" "everyone thinks you are good", Ok a little exaggerated on the true meaning, but those are thinks she has said to me from time to time, I actually feel more comfortable here in Thailand with the neighbors than in Aus,with 20 years of combined visits and living. Some stay in one place, and do the same thing every day, others see more in a month than many in a year. Sometimes you have to swim out to sea to get a good view of the beach.
