Why do you assume any issue is only in poor areas?

We have had houses in 2 upper middle class areas in Thailand and have had the issues explained above

I live in a million dollar apartment(not baht) and my neighbors were being assholes on Saturday around 1am

And I would say a very small, tiny % of expats, even the most budget conscious, live in poor squalor areas

The way the issue was written up wrongly led me to believe this was playing out in some sinkhole soi !
Lesson seems to be the same though…… avoid living around Thais …..and AirBnB potential properties. Not easy as quiet owners can decide to go Airbnb at any time then it’s suddenly party central for the neighbours.

The Isaan farmer lifestyle in wife’s village is very common with broke British guys living on govt. pensions with many more in tiny tower block apartments or backstreet sois in large cities or towns.

I've never been to Isaan but I am on a couple Thai House Building groups on Facebook

Now I do notice a lot of Isaan properties seem very close to each other

Not my cup of tea

But I also see some beautiful houses in gorgeous settings

And yes I know of many expats living in tiny rooms

Definitely not something I would want to do

We will build in my wife's beautiful village

It's definitely not a "some sinkhole"

Beautiful green everywhere

But who cares if I built it that beautiful village or live in a villa in Phuket or a studio in Pattaya

Everyone has different means and different ideas of how they want to live

You seem a bit too occupied with others.....

Yes if you have the means, I think helping your kids start a business is the way to go in Thailand

Especially since there is a relatively low cost of entry/start up

It is a thought I have, starting a physical therapy clinic for my stepson

Your point on USA houses...................

That is not my experience or impression at all

Most kids in US are treated like kids well into their 20's and parents more than happy to have them home

Now Australia, their kids are much more independent early

Yes, they will never walk alone! Hahahahaha

BTW. Nothing negative about your lifestyle and preference for how you want to live, it does sound nice, but it isn't the utopian everything is perfet and the best in a nutshell for others. I rally don't look down on anyone how they want to live and how much money they have as long as they are good people and enjoy their life. I even think the lowest level Social Security payout of a reitree from the USA living frugal and happy here is better than living in the US under worse enviroment barely or not sraping by. It is quality of life. After the kids are on their life after University, I honetly could live off of about 35-40k baht a month with an occasional go out and travel here and there filtered in. I don't need much here. The savings I have in the US banks is for the kids after I am gone. I am on my last stretch of life. I see it as like flying, the plane goes up, levels off, and at some point sarts a decent befor lasnding at destination. I figure I am proably into half of that decent before the last breath of landing comes around. Maybe 10-15 probably but if lucky 20 years at best.

Back to this

Even if your(our) kids have a decent business in Thailand, I anticipate having to help out a fair bit with the grandkid's expenses

Which I am happy to do, just need to understand that reality
