Highway Police Unit 8, decided to conduct a data analysis of the offending vehicle’s travel patterns, including probable timings of usage and location, reported KhaoSod.

Cops with a brain. Promote the lot of them and give them a pay rise. A rare beast in Thailand.

When used outside the motor trade, aren't red plates supposed to be temporary, just as a stop gap until the vehicle has been fully registered?

Yes I had mine about 4 months while waiting for a new numberplate to be allocated  to my car. The dealer submits the papers and you get a holding plate .

No one waits 2 years for a new numberplate and no one believed this guys BS either, thank goodness.

Just a crooked tight wad avoiding traffic toll fees.

It doesn't matter where you're from. If you are a foreigner and choose to live in Pattaya, most likely you are scum.

But there is no obligation for you to run in and get that new plate and PAY TAX.

That is why you see 2023 cars advertised with 120,000 kms on the clock.  The year in Thailand is not the manufactured year but the year you start paying that tax.

Something to keep in mind when going over a 2nd hand car buy and checking that your ideal car was manufactured a few years earlier.

Until real plates are made and sent. Takes about 1 month. Rules are also cannot drive red plates in the nighttime. Not sure if ok to drive from your province as well

Our were always about 1 month in CM

Can travel anywhere but you must have a written log book for out of area journeys.

Can only be a bother if it is end of the month and the cops have a check point looking for a sub to get them to pay day.  Happens here like clockwork every month. 

On the major arterial road starts at 9:00 and usually packed up and gone by 10:30. They never bother the locals though only the long haulers and out of Province.
