Located in neighbouring Mae Hong Son province, this amazing place is best accessed from Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai by private car.  It may be done in a day trip from say Pai, but I'd suggest anything less than a 2 day trip is not sufficient.

Guides will take your group through this incredible cave system on bamboo rafts and show off the unique species of ancient fish which thrive in the cold dark environment, you'll see ancient burial sites the date back 1700 years or more, view massive stalactites and stalagmites ... and much more.

Handheld lighting is provided and when not on the raft one must take care on the slippery slopes - here one visitor holds up ~ 100 billion tons of limestone roof >

I've stayed at the fabulous Cave Lodge https://www.cavelodge.com/ - food is excellent!

Nice find. Been to Pai and area too many times to count. Every time a friend or friends comes to visit me we will all motorbike it up there to have some fun. Hot springs are sometimes a take in for a dip on the way to Pai or on the way back.. So you have actually visited this cave? How are the smells? Been to lots of caves here and always willing to see one more when our world opens up again. That is when it opens back up.

Yes and stayed at the lodge.  Caves are not really smelly as there's adequate airflow and very large chambers.

Rainy season is NOT a good time to visit unless early on before major falls - best to check with Cave Lodge.  Ideal time to visit would be after rains have ceased, say December/January, although warm clothing needed then as it gets very cool.

Yeah figured you did a visit. Yep, rainy season even for going close to a waterfall visit and any stream swims is a no for me and the family, and most caves her are out of the question if in the wrong place. Chiang Dao has a Temple one accessible and not dangerous. Wouldn't want a movie made from any oops escapade I did to a cave here. But then wouldn't expect the nine yards and bells and whistles brought out for a foreigner either. Beautiful area up in the Pai and MHS area. Well when no fires going on.
