I am puzzled as to why foreigners complain about the police or immigration asking for bribes. Either negotiate the requested amount down or refuse to pay. This guy is setting himself up for a hard fall next time he goes for a visa extension.

Bribery is illegal. Foreigners who pay bribes leave themselves open for further extortion or in turn being charged with the provision of a bribe. There are of course common sense  approaches. Tea money shakedowns are inevitable in a corrupt country, but large amount payments are wrong and should not be paid.

Is this supposed to be news in the LOS? Its pretty much the norm I would say and have experienced similar tactics personally.

Bring on the new government and hopefully they can start the process of transparency, little by little as sadly corruption is in every corner of Thai society.
