This nature of dual role in the convenient store all over Thailand is common as these workers are paid extra commission for such dual role.

Maybe he had an underlying illness, it certainly sounds like it. I have worked many 16 hour shifts that were physical all day long and though I was pretty fatigued it was never enough to kill me. In fact I worked 64 days in a row in Africa while I was on roster without a day off, in the heat and humidity and it wasn't an office job role, we were field engineers and even that didn't kill me, so I assume this person had other medical issues.

Absolutely. As a soldier 48 or even more hours without sleep doing heavy labour was not uncommon. After that working in a chemicals factory 16 hour days could go on for 6 or 8 weeks depending on the job role you were doing.

This person has had either an underlining health issue or a lifestyle issue.

My thoughts do go to his family though. 43 is way too early.

Not buying the overworked story. I used to work 12 hours a day in 3 month stretches no days off. Quite physical as heck. I will go with Rookiescots second to last paragraph with either or, or perhaps both together.
