The school has a right to refuse to accept a student who has been convicted of breaking the law - even if that law is controversial or deemed as unjust by some. They should however return the fees she paid, and let her go on to try another school or private education. Seems like this is more about protesting than actually getting an education. You'd think she'd get the lesson the first time - protesting doesn't always work in your favor, especially not in Thailand.

The real story here is the amount of air time this story has got. In a western democracy she would be sent packing from school, and no-one would be the wiser. It demonstrates how far out of its depth Thai society is when dealing with a challenge to establishment, where the threat arises from an innocuous source.

YES, but now she has made a show case of it she will be treated like leper.

Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School.

Can now increase enrolment fees next term as the will be viewed, by many, as doing the right thing.

Home schooling is probably her only option now.

Some advice to this kid, who wants to buck the system, have patience and wait till you get to Uni.

She is sticking to her guns. If MFP owns up to their promises to reform this problem then great. Don’t give schools a choice of the old days, allow a kid to have a clean decent hair style the way they want to have it. Uniforms I am indifferent on. Hair is not negotiable, and I speak from raising kids here.

I agree with the expulsion if she's breaking rules and being a distraction

But I would disagree with your suggestion she wait until Uni

I think Thai schools do irreparable damage to kids when they are younger with how they stifle any sort of curiosity, independent thinking

By the time they get to high school they've lost the ability we were taught to be curious and be independent thinkers

And I do think that is a massive source of what holds the country and so many Thais back

True but the Uni kids are now waking up and educating themselves to rights etc, sadly this young lady jumped the gun by a few years.  Anything vocal or otherwise that attracts the wrong attention gets shut down heavily in some cases. They monitor everything now particularly social media.

Off subject slightly but a few years back a young lady complained on Facebook about the bush track that went past her house, that many local politicians, over numerous years had promised to fix with a concrete road.

Within hours Amphoe reps, Police and Army (the latter Province reps) were on her doorstep, all of whom crapped themselves when the whole village (100's) turned out to support her. Big mouths when arriving, quiet when leaving.

Result- she was ordered to remove all postings and not repeat this action. Their win.

Work began two weeks later on the first section.

18 months later all done.

She won, how many lose?

Basically, they all use the term “rights to…” as if everyone owe them something. Have they ever use their brain to think what’s “right” vs. wrong? I guess, they only know one thing, I’m the Center of universe.

what next? The “rights to” enter med school with their shitty academic record? “The rights” to work for top company even if they are not qualified? “The right” to earn millions by just day dreaming? Wake up and get real!

back in my day, if you’re shitty at academics one don’t even dare trying the top school.
