Let me add my respect for this guy; walking all that distance and raising all that money is a truly wonderful thing.

Well done, Sir!

If there were more people like you the world would be a better place.

I understand Mr SF's comment above, but am also quite sad to see it as there ARE many more people like him.

I read the news like everyone else on here, and I see the stories of lying politicians, haters of all kinds, people whose selfishness truly beggar's belief, the bigots, those rich A-Holes who hoard their cash as if they can take it with them when they go, the professional complainers who endlessly whine about stuff for their own publicity or benefit, the bullies, the power-mad tossers who use their positions for self-dealing, etc., etc., etc. And, yes, that isn't even a remotely complete list of the awful people on our planet.

However, it is important to remember that most people are actually quite decent, in their own manner, and for every pompous greedy A-Hole out there, there is an unsung hero who gives their time, brains, energy and money to help others.

I have spent my life working in the international sector with charities and development organizations 'doing good'. Before the comment comes, yes, I was a volunteer at times, but also yes, I got/get paid too. And yes, with the help of a good money-manager, I have done well. However, the true wealth of my working career has been the opportunity to work with individuals and groups across the globe who strive to make the world a better place. Yes, they give their time, their energies, their encouragement, their skills, their hard-earned cash, and even occasionally and very very sadly, their lives in pursuit of making a difference. And, there is a hell of a lot more of them out there than people realize, mostly because they simply do good things without trumpeting their accomplishments and because the Media doesn't see the value of stories without bad things in them.

A tip of the hat to the walker above, but I hope all will join me in giving another tip of the hat to all the millions and millions of unsung heroes who do great things for others, quietly and mostly un-noticed, every single day.

Literally every single day.

And I venture to add there are more than one-on-one leaning toward the unsung heroes. Thank you Mr Valentine - and others like you who give your time freely and are compensated only by seeing the satisfaction of their efforts.
