Wow, the US seems really strong, these days:

They initially paid around 100,000 baht (US$28,70) for the medical expenses.

Beer decided to pay for Hendrikus’ hospital bill using her credit card with an amount of 60,000 baht (US$17,20).

And wait:

A former Dutch honorary consul, 66 year old Hendrikus, passed away in a Nonthaburi hospital with almost 400,000 baht (US$11,500) in unpaid medical bills.

The bills are paid. Just not from the dutch family members.

Interesting to read, that a Dutch court just need pictures from a still living person in a hospital, to pay out inheritance. And no death certification. Europe seems to go down, this century, eh, decade?

"Beer found out that Hendrikus’s family members visited him, took photos, and recorded videos as evidence to submit to a court in the Netherlands to claim the inheritance he left behind."

Now that is a clear indication why many westerners are coming to Thailand to have a peaceful ending of their living with Thai woman. At least they will not leave him during his sufferings and even after death giving him a decent sent off. Of course there are bad apples also which remains as black sheep among the good ones in Thailand.

Are these assets in Thailand perhaps?  Interesting that the ex-wife is claiming 500,000 baht in expenses yet only 160,000 baht was paid to the hospital.

I don't think so those are in Thailand. It seems like all are in Netherlands. If in  Thailand, then she would have easily acquire them. I am sure according to Thai law, living together as husband and wife is also accepted in the courts. Hopefully she can get it as she is having a daughter with him....I think.

I believe your calculations are a bit off.

Shame on everyone in his Thai family for not helping him to insure and provide... his relatives owe nothing.

Don't blame the Thai family. The main aim of Thai woman living with Westerners is $$$$. It is very easy for Thai woman to get thing through done by just giving what men want. It is his responsibility to ensure that he is properly protected with the required insurance and keeping some financial strength to himself. At least in this case his Thai ex-wife has shown some sympathy towards him.
