Amazes me that one of the richest families in the world only survive on benefits, even when they die.

Something not right there or am I the odd one out again?🙃

This wasn't  "benefits". It was a state funeral, provided with the support (and appreciation) of the vast majority of the population of the UK. Even those in the IRA implicated in the murder of her family members didn't begrudge her that. The funeral was an exercise in group grief therapy and allowed tens of millions of people in the UK closure on the  passing of a woman who was a defacto part of their  family.  had they sought counseling from the NHS, it would not have been available due to the demand.

Much of the expense was on policing and security, which is more a reflection on the nature of our society and the explicit threats to national security that the UK has. Keep in mind that even in death the Queen continued to work for the  nation as her funeral was a cost effective means of promoting the UK for an extended period of time. The UK and its tourist attractions benefited from extended media coverage over a period of weeks. Approx. 5.1 billion people watched the funeral.  A US Superbowl commercial costs $6.5 million for  30 seconds.   The FIFA World cup is about $1.5  for a minute, with total advertising estimated at $1 billion.   The UK received one heck of a promotional package that was carried for free across multiple media outlets. More importantly, the woman earned it.

The pain of the pinch is only felt when the money is coming from either the countries coffer or from own pocket. It is not felt when it is accumulated wealth from colonialism.
