Covid-19 visa end date extended to September 27

Recommended Posts

Contrary to the historically last-minute announcements regarding visas for foreigners in Thailand during the pandemic, the Covid-19 visa has been extended nearly 2 weeks before its current July 29 expiration date. The new extension on the Covid-19 visa allowing foreigners to stay longer-term in the country will allow people to continue on this special visa type until September. The Covid -19 visa was originally created to deal with the problem of foreigners who came to Thailand before the pandemic and then found themselves unable to travel home due to closed borders, flight cancellations, travel restrictions, or outbreaks in their home […]

If we apply early for an extension does the 60 day extension start from the application date or from the expiration date? In Phuket the 60 day extensions have been from the date of application NOT from the expiration date. Hence most people wait until the last day to extend and there are long kines at Phuket Immigration. We lost a week once by applying early. This should be clarified!!!

We went today to Phuket immigration to apply for the 60 day Covid extension. All went smoothly and 2 hrs later we got our passports back. We have to go back 27 July for the "2nd stamp" as they call it. When we submitted our paperwork, passport and the 1900 baht we asked if the 60 day extension would begin today or from our expiration date (24 July), the friendly immigration lady said the 60 day extension would be from our expiration date!

It was not very busy today so I encourage everyone to go early as there appears to be no reason to wait until the last day.

what paperwork did you require?

Copy of passport, VISA page, all extension pages and departure card.

Completed form TM7 with one photo.

Form for "affidavit for grant permission to temporarily stay in the kingdom during the pandemic situation of Covid 19"

Form for "acknowledgement of terms and conditions for permit of temporary stay in the kingdom of Thailand"

Copy of residence registration, in our case a local hotel.

Good luck!, DON'T WAIT GO EARLY!

Veronica, you will be charged 500 baht/day if you do not go before you present extension expires. There is no penalty for going early, 60 day extensions will apply from your present extension expiration date, not from when you apply. Remember next Monday (26 July) and Wednesday (28 July) are holidays, so I think next week will be mad house at Immigration.

Whilst not an expert here, my colleague @Fazis much more knowledgeable and will no doubt respond on spotting this mention. And your debut post, too, so thanks for that!

Firstly - invaluable resource during tough times - thank you thaiger team.

I am Australian - but here using my British passport. The situation at home remains difficult to return (read: shocking disaster of stupidity). The current arrangement for visa exemptions/amnesty is directly tied to the current state of emergency declared here in Thailand.
What do you think will happen to those who remain stranded here should the state of emergency be cancelled here as discussed could occur on Tuesday (9/9/21)? Thankfully at the moment both the uk and Australia have limitations of movement from Thailand  -  do you think (as I fear will be the case) that this dual passport situation (and travelling on a different passport to my country of residence) will complicate my situation when this emergency decree is repealed

Estimates in some parts of Australia have December 2022 for the country to reopen - and I would prefer to stay in the relative safety of Thailand  than the unpredictable Australian situation or the expense of being A stranger in Britain.

Many valid points and questions too, with so many issues awaiting resolution that only Covid-19 can dictate.  And this, your debut post, so many thanks for that and for your 'Thaiger team' praise, too!

And why the hell is the deadline on a Monday now anyway and not Thursday September 30th?

Thai Immigration mentality - your guess is as good as anybody else's.

So they told me first time needs to be 30 days , then you can line up again and get it for 60 days, so that is 4000 bhat, I guess this is so they can make more cash ? I am still confused to be honest.

Looks like your after an extension.

When did you enter Thailand and how (what Visa).
